USA Motivational Times

Area Times:  Time standards set by the Illinois/Missouri Area Swim Committee. In order to go to the Illinois/Missouri Area Championships, a swimmer must be registered as a member of their YMCA and on the team roster prior to December 1st and  MUST swim in 3 YMCA sanctioned meets and make the Area cut-off or place first at District. If a District relay qualifies for Area each member on that team is required to participate at Area – if there is a financial or transportation reason for not attending please see Michelle immediately for arrangements.

Cut-Offs: Qualifying times necessary to compete in a meet. (Also referred to as time standards)

District Times: Time standards set by the District Swim Committee. In order to go to the Illini District Championships, a swimmer must be registered as a member of their YMCA and on the team roster prior to December 1st and  MUST swim in 3 YMCA sanctioned meets (and for ages 12-under make the District cut-off).  District Relays are usually composed of the swimmers with the 4 fastest times, with the coach inviting those swimmers 1 month prior to the District Meet. (See page 24 for Time Standards)

Seed Time: the time used to enter a swimmer in their event. This time is established from swimming the event before.  If a swimmer has not swam the event before they are entered as a “NT” (no time)

Split: the breaking down of any swim into any number of smaller distances in an effort to tell the swimmer where they may have eased up or become too tired to sustain momentum.

Stopwatch: Watch used to time races. May be purchased at sporting goods stores or many retail stores.

Qualifying Times: Times set to swim in a particular meet. Formal cut-offs.
